Team AKKA-ASP climb onto the podium for the Silver Cup and take the Drivers and Teams title for the category in the Endurance Cup!
This 71st edition of the 24 Hours of Spa will be remembered for being thoroughly drenched by the rain, to the point of interrupting the race for six hours. A top-notch field, drivers of the highest level and a competition full of surprises, all the ingredients were gathered to offer a great spectacle. In the AKKA-ASP clan, two cars were entered and two cars made it to the finish line with a podium (2nd) in the Silver Cup for the #90 of Nico Bastian, Timur Boguslavskiy and Felipe Fraga. At the same time, the drivers and the team have won, with one event left in the championship, the title of the category in the Endurance Cup and took a serious lead in the overall classification in the Blancpain GT Series, also in the same category. In the Pro car, the crew of the #88, Raffaele Marciello, Vincent Abril and Fabian Schiller wasn’t without merit, running 6th before the race was interrupted, and crossing the finish line in 13th. The whole team proved their complete dedication by fighting to the end. The epilogue of the Endurance Cup season will be with the final round taking place in Barcelona on the 28th and 29th of September.
An unmissable event of world GT racing, the 24 Hours of Spa has hit a new record this year in its GT era, with 72 cars at the start. This somewhat special event on the calendar (on a track that is just as special), is spread over a full week, encompassing the traditional parade to the centre of the town of Spa, the private tests, free practice, qualifying and night practice sessions, warm-up, Super Pole, and of course, the race.
It’s a lot of work for team AKKA-ASP, who set up two cars for the 24 Hours, but also four GT4 cars in the French championship that was also running in Belgium as a support race. In terms of logistics, it’s been a busy week.
Team AKKA-ASP entered two Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the 24 Hours: the #88 of course, with Raffaele Marciello, Vincent Abril and Fabian Schiller (replacing Michael Meadows for this race, who will be back in Barcelona), as well as the #90 with Nico Basian, Timur Boguslavskyi and Felipe Fraga, solid leaders in the Blancpain GT Series Silver Cup (Endurance and overall) as they arrived in the Ardennes.
After Wednesday’s festivities with the traditional parade from the circuit toward the centre of the town of Spa and back with the race cars, in front of thousands of spectators on the hunt for autographs, the following day would be long and really busy.
