After Brands Hatch, Team AKKA-ASP headed for Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix, for the second round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. This time, the weather in the English countryside was good. For Team AKKA-ASP, however, it was a difficult start, with a crash for the #87 during the private testing, meaning that the team had to change the chassis. Another blow during qualifying, when two red flags during the first qualifying session left Raffaele Marciello with no time, putting the #88 on the 20th row of the grid. A fine performance for the #87, starting on the 4th row (P8) and 15th row for the #87. Another disappointment for the #88 at the start of the race, forced to retire after having been caught up in a collision. After a race interrupted by a number of Safety Car interventions, the #90 claimed another Silver Cup podium, finishing in the top ten overall. In the Pro-AM category, the #87 finished just off the podium, but did a good job up against some determined rivals. In the overall classification of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup Silver Cup, AKKA-ASP and the trio of the #90, Nico Bastian, Timur Boguslavskiy and Felipe Fraga, are leading the provisional overall classification.
The second part of this British adventure, the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup round took place this weekend at Silverstone. Unlike the previous weekend, the weather was good, and did not disturb the event.
In the AKKA-ASP clan, three cars were entered. In the Mercedes-AMG GT3 #88, Raffaele Marciello and Vincent Abril joined up with Michael Meadows while in the Silver Cup, Felipe Fraga took his place in the #90 alongside Nico Bastian and Timur Boguslavskiy. Finally, the Pro-AM trio on the #87 was made up of Mauro Ricci with Jean-Luc Beaubelique and Jim Pla.
In the test sessions, when the team was working hard, bad luck hit the team when the #87 Mercedes-AMG GT3 went off heavily. The car was seriously damaged, and the team had to change the chassis.
Free practice gave the team some breathing space, followed by a great time (P4) for Raffaele Marciello in Pre-Qualifying. Unfortunately, in the first qualifying session, the two red flags meant that Raffaele Marciello in the #88, who started the session late, was unable to set a lap time. Despite the best efforts of his teammates, the #88 found itself in 40th position on the starting grid. Considering the level of the field, the three-hour race looked like being complicated.
In the #90, Nico Bastian set the 5th time in his session, and with the average of the three times, the crew found itself on the 4th row of the grid (P8). Up against serious competition, the #87 placed itself on the 15th row after Jim Pla set the 8th-fastest time (1st Pro-Am in Q1)
