Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe
More news from Team AKKA-ASP… Nico BASTIAN, reigning Silver Cup Champion with AKKA-ASP in both the Blancpain GT Series Silver Cup and Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, will be racing alongside a young driver, totally new to the category, Thomas NEUBAUER. Driving the #89 Mercedes-AMG GT3, the Franco-German pairing is likely to be quickly on the pace. Nico’s exceptional experience should allow Thomas to quickly acquire the ‘right’ reflexes to master the 500hp of his magnificent new car, as well as to avoid the potential traps in the Blancpain GT Series field.
In 2019, the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup will become the GT World Challenge Europe. The principle, however, remains the same: two qualifying sessions and two one-hour races, over two or three days.
Within the ranks of Team AKKA-ASP, experience and youth will be combined with the arrival of young Thomas Neubauer, who will turn 20 in June, fresh from single-seaters after a fine career in karting. With a double programme this year, he will compete in the Ferrari Challenge as well as the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe.
Within Team AKKA-ASP, Thomas will be able to count on the experience of the multi-talented and efficient driver Nico Bastian to help him make rapid progress. Having won two Silver Cup titles in 2018 with Jack Manchester, Nico is ready for a new challenge with a new team-mate.
According to Jérôme Policand, this pair has a good chance of quickly being up at the front: « This new line-up is very interesting, and I know that Nico will be an excellent team-mate for Thomas. Nearly 20 years old, Thomas is showing real promise. After thorough tests in Barcelona, we decided to run him with an experienced driver, and Nico was the ideal candidate. Nico is a solid driver who has a lot of experience with the Mercedes-AMG GT3. Whether in sprint races or in endurance such as the 24 Hours of Spa or the Nürburgring, he is a master of his subject. This duo could create a real surprise.»
After private tests in Misano and the Nürburgring in March, the GT World Challenge Europe will get underway for the #89 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and its drivers on May 4th and 5th at the circuit of Brands Hatch, in Great Britain.
